LAKE WILKIE WALK
The carpark is just south of the Outdoor Recreation Centre
The walk features a variety of plant life. From podocarp forest at the track’s start to the impressive viewpoint – that can be accessed by wheelchair – to the plant communities around the lake. Good interpretation panels explain the lake’s formation and vegetation succession. When the rata is flower it’s an impressive and colourful place, with an active bird population.
This lake is surrounded by dense bush and plantlike that can be reflected in the lake.
Beautiful scenery and peaceful short walk in the Catlins.
This walk is well maintained, easy and enjoyable for those like myself who enjoy nature.
King Ferns are carpeting the forest floor throughout this walk.
The path winds and bends and you will discover a viewing platform to get a great view of Lake Wilkie.
The tree is vast and colourful through this walk like the whole of the Catlins.
