CLAY CLIFFS – OMARAMA
The Clay Cliffs are a stark sight – tall pinnacles separated by narrow ravines.
These otherworldly formations are made up of layers of gravel and silt, originally formed by the flow from ancient glaciers over a million years ago.
This is the vista of the clay cliffs in Omarama when you drive in.
If you look right on the way up the pathway, you will see this formation of pointy, arched clay formed over hundreds years.
You think these are small but once you are there they rise up like cathedral spires towards the sky, amazing!!
Incredible texture and hundreds of layers and colours of the clay can been seen.
You can take the channels and paths to get a closer look and be surrounded by the cliffs.
Everyone is different but etched by the rain that has shaped this amazing clay cliffs.
This vista is within the centre of the clay cliffs and gives a 180 degree view on all sides.
This is the sloped path channel up towards the centre of the clay cliffs, can be a bit tricky.
Incredible to look at close up.
Some look like types of pyramids reaching high.
Others have flat tops and stretch across the horizon.
Shell and other things can be seen caught in the clay as it is eroded by the rain.
