WATERFALL WALK – DOG STREAM

Dog Stream Waterfall is roughly a 5-minutes’ drive away from Hanmer Springs, or 2-hours’ from Christchurch. The road surface is always sealed.

From Hanmer Springs travel north-east along Jollies Pass Rd for 2.2km, then slide left onto McIntyre Rd and follow it for the next 1.5km. Slide left onto Mullans Rd and follow it until you reach the Hanmer Forest Park car park.

From the parking, follow a well-signposted Waterfall Track along the Dog Stream. In roughly 1-hr you will reach a track’s junction, keep to the left and you will get to the waterfall within the next 15 minutes. Return via the same track, or from the track’s junction walk it as a loop. Total walking time is 2.5hrs.

Lots of native bush and heaps of bird sound from Tuis and Bellbirds along this lovely uphill walk.

Uphill sections of the walk regularly occur and some slippery or muddy parts also.

Lots of shade throughout this walk and you will have to cross the dog stream higher up this walk before finishing at the waterfall.

This is one of two smaller waterfalls that you will cross on the waterfall track.

There are flat rocky stretches along this walk through the bush here in the forest.
