WHISKY FALLS WALK
From the parking area, follow the tramping Lakeside Track which in roughly 1.5hrs brings you to a track junction. It is just 10 minutes walk to the base of the waterfall from here.
Return via the same route, total walking time is 3hrs. Alternatively, you can walk the whole Lakeside Track, which takes roughly 5hrs.
Best way to visit the waterfall is to combine the walk and a water-taxi: from Kerr Bay (Lake Rotoiti) take a water-taxi (as per 2019: Adults $20 Children $10) which stops at Whisky Falls. It is just 10 minutes’ walk from here. Return either by the same water-taxi, or take a 1.5-hrs’ walk via Lakeside Track back to Mt Robert Rd.
Easy at the start but gets windy, steep, and uneven the rest of the way.
You get a change to see the mountains and lake during the long walk.
Not a walk for the unfit, but if you can manage it to whisky waterfall and the return walk it is well worth it.
There are parts that are rocky and uneven so be sure of your footing.
A small bridge to cross on your walk.
Vista back towards the bottom of Lake Rotoiti.
To the right is the Brunner Peninsula Walk.
Entangled roots cover the ground near the base of the Whisky waterfall.
Like snakes or tendrils stretching over the forest floor.
There are several scree lopes to carefully cross along this walk so take care.
Place to get down to the waters edge for a good view of the surrounding scenery.
Bush grows right down to the waters edge in places.
Other places strip of open shore can be visible.
This Jetty is where you can get the easy and less difficult way to see whisky waterfall on a water taxi there and back again.
