Yesterday I visited two local Canterbury gardens, the first was a private garden called Cedar Park Gardens out in Rolleston owned by Ron and Anne Finch, this was a lovely place to walk around as you could see all sorts of different areas such as the pond with its quaint bridge, the archways and pagodas where you could sit and admire the garden views. Trails that led you around the back to where you could see the tulip beds, native bush corner with the flowering kowhai, and flowering blossom trees.
The second garden was Trott’s Garden in Ashburton, this open to the public and has a wonderful old church where wedding and functions can be held, the gardens are surrounded by high hedges, viewing platforms to see the maize hedges that are so decorative and perfect in their patterned form. Then you can follow the arrows to the spectacular gardens that include rhododendrons, camelias, and small iris, there is a lovely pond you can walk around, before continuing onto the various sculptures, trees lined lanes, and pathways that eventually lead you back to the carpark, aviary and seating area. Both gardens are well worth a visit for anyone that enjoys gardens and their peaceful surroundings.
