Tunnel Beach Walk

On Tuesday, I successfully did the Tunnel Beach Walk which is located in Blackhead (East Dunedin) about a 45min drive from out stay. The weather was great blue skies, light NE winds and loads of sunshine. The walk, however, it not for the faint hearted as it starts at the top of the cliffs and winds it way down the slope on a steep gravel path, you need sturdy footwear to make if comfortable and easy on your legs. The views, however, make up for the hard walk ahead, and once you get down to the headland you get spectacular vistas in all directions looking at the sandstone cliffs, even might see some local fur seals resting on the rocks. The tunnel part and easy to find but it is steep, but with care you come out at the bottom to where you can climb over the washed up rocks (slippery with sand) and get down onto the beach to wander around. There is also a lookout point which you can get out onto, even though it is fenced off, you can get better views further along the coastline, and see the rock tunnel underneath, or just sit, rest and relax before you start the arduous climb back to the carpark. DONT FORGET YOUR CAMERA!!
