This morning I went on another tour visit this time up to see the Fort where soldiers protected our borders against the Russians in the second world war, this was achieved by making a disappearing gun hidden in the Taiaroa Cliffs looking out towards the coastline and the Chatham Islands. The history about how the gun was used such as pumping the air over the hydraulics for 8 hours, extremely hard work for the men situated in the fort for long periods of time. and the observatory was totally open to the elements at all times. The tunnels, information, photos, weapons, are gun magazines are incredibly amazing and make the tour worth the visit for everyone interested in our history.
