Today I took time out to visit an historic site in Christchurch being the Lytellton Timeball, this site was destroyed by the 2011 earthquake, but with great forthought and care the timeball tower was reconstructed at the base of the historical building that used to be based there. It is an easy walk up the hill to the side where you can see can read about the history of the Lytellton Timeball and its significance in Otautahi history. It was sad to see how much history we have lost but wandering around the ruins and tower you can get a idea of what the timeball linked with early lytellton history and surrounding points across the harbour. A Worthwhile visit for locals and visitors alike, however, there is very limited parking at the base of the road, and the road upto the timeball is narrow.
