The Orekai Basin Loop Walk is situated in Orekai and is a old volcano (now a lagoon) this walk follows the lagoon and Purewa Creek. The walk leads you along the front of the lagoon, and then through forest before heading up a set of stairs to rejoin the path on the other side which meanders through a small section of forest. This leads on to the bridge across the creek where you can see Shags resting on old tree along the lagoons banks. There are lots of places to rest and take photos, and the walk is easy for all the family, just be aware that the ground can be a bit slippery after run in some sections. This is another walk in Auckland City that I can recommend for an outing.
