This track was one that have not been able to do for a while so yesterday after doing the Tarn Walk I drove back to Hanmer Springs to the Hamner Forest to do the Dog Stream Waterfall Track. I drove up the roads into the forest where I reached the car park and then set off on the walk. I started the walk reasonably easily for the most part enjoying the bush and all the bird sounds across the valley of the Bellbirds and Tuis, ascending the path further and further crossing bridges where the water flowed as smaller waterfall. If you intend to do this walk l would recommend where sturdy footwear as the path is rocky, slippery and muddy in parts and lots of ups and downs with tree roots, and be reasonably fit to make it to the top of this 2.1km walk. Unfortunately I was unable to complete it as planned which annoyed me, I stopped when I reached Dog Stream approximately halfway up. People I passed on the way coming back acknowledged that the walk is well-worth it when you reach the waterfall at the top of the valley for a well earned rest and refreshing stop. The walk takes approx 3-4 hours return.
